Paul Thomas Anderson writes, directs, and co-produces this period drama, loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!. Daniel Day-Lewis plays Daniel Plainview, a silver miner turned oilman who cons landowners out of their property during California's oil boom, using his young son to present himself as a trustworthy family man. Paul Dano plays Eli Sunday, a local preacher who grows suspicious of Plainview's motives, and their rivalry deepens into a prolonged feud. Ciaran Hinds and Dillon Freasier round out the cast.
