Synopsis

AI-generated · themoviedb.org · en.wikipedia.org

Todd Phillips directs this alternative origin story for the Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a party clown and aspiring stand-up comedian in a decaying, 1980s Gotham City. As his mental state deteriorates, Fleck's actions set off a violent uprising against the city's wealthy. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy appear in supporting roles. The screenplay, co-written by Phillips and Scott Silver, loosely adapts elements from the comic Batman: The Killing Joke.
