James Gunn writes and directs this 2017 sequel, the fifteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the Guardians travel the cosmos, Peter Quill learns the truth about his father, Ego, played by Kurt Russell in a departure from the character's comics origin. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista return, joined by Sylvester Stallone and Pom Klementieff. Gunn set the story shortly after the first film to explore the team's new roles as a family.
