Teenager Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, is accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean built by his friend, eccentric scientist Emmett Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, in this 1985 film directed by Robert Zemeckis. Marty's arrival disrupts his parents' first meeting, drawing his mother's interest instead, so he must bring them together again while finding a way home. Zemeckis wrote the script with Bob Gale after conceiving the idea in 1980.
